“...fascinating, devastatingly complex questions of heritage and community...”

Directed by award-winning American filmmaker and scriptwriter Paul Mazursky (Enemies: A Love Story), Yippee chronicles the director’s whirlwind journey to Uman, Ukraine, the site of an annual gathering of Jewish men making pilgrimages to the burial place of Rabbi Nachman of Bratslav (1772-1810).

When Mazursky heard that 25,000, mostly Hassidic Jews from around the world would visit Uman for three days of praying, singing and dancing, he felt compelled to go. Arriving with his small film crew, he interviewed a variety of men from many countries, sharing meals and laughs. He visited the gravesite of the Baal Shem Tov, Reb Nachman’s great-grandfather, and talked with Uman’s gentiles about their reactions to this annual massive influx. Everything culminates Erev Rosh Hashanah in mass spiritual ecstasy.

This is an infectious, awe-inspiring, electric road movie, with a curious, funny and generous guide in Mazursky.
