“...reflects perfectly the unimaginable complexity of modern Israel...”

Commerce 2 p.m. Tues, May 13

Ilan is an adolescent boy who runs off to live with his sister, turned out by her father three years before. With little to do while his sister is at work and living a busy social life, Ilan befriends her crazy neighbor Avraham, an aging Communist hermit (beautifully played by Assi Dayan—Moshe Dayan’s son) determined to defend his hovel from the authorities.

Of course nothing is that simple in the Promised Land, and a bigger story soon erupts. Avraham’s real agenda becomes clear, and this drives apart Avraham and his new friend Ilan – then brings them together to understand the real meaning of friendship
