When Chicken Run was released in 2000, parents were advised: “Some early
scenes where Ginger tries to escape from the farm and must hide from Mr.
Tweedy and his vicious-looking guard dogs may be unsettling, tense or even
scary for younger kids.”
The story takes place at Tweedy’s Egg Farm, which bears an uncomfortable
resemblance to a forced-labor camp, with harsh minders and stark cages.
Misbehaving chickens are forced into solitary confinement. It’s a dark
world, where resident chickens are expected to produce or suffer the
consequences: Mrs. Tweedy’s new machine, which inhales chickens and spits
out chicken pies.
So far, all attempts to escape have failed. Enter famous flying rooster
Rocky, who calls himself “The Lone Free Ranger.” Hope lives!.
